Personalized Therapeutic Journeys: Embracing Individual, Adolescent, and Couple Wellness

Individual Adult Psychotherapy

Individual Adult Psychotherapy

  • We offer one on one therapy for adults (18+). Your therapist will have an intake session with you to talk about your background, why you have come for therapy now and what your current issues are. Together you will decide on a treatment plan based on your therapists recommendations. Length of treatment varies depending on the issues to tackle in therapy. We recommend a minimum of 8 to 12 sessions if you are dealing with one issue.

Individual Adolescent Psychotherapy

Individual Adolescent Psychotherapy

  • We offer therapy for adolescents (12+). Your therapist will have an intake session with you. You can decide if you would like your parent(s) to attend this session too. All treatment and consent forms need to be signed by you and your legal guardian. Your therapist will talk to you about confidentiality and treatment. Together you will decide how often to meet depending on the therapist recommendations and your needs.

Couple Therapy

Couple Therapy

  • Your couple therapist sees you together for a first intake session. Then the second session is focused on getting your individual backgrounds, for this the counsellor may ask to see you individually for a session or together. The couple therapist will discuss their understanding of the primary focus for couple treatment and propose a treatment plan. Therapy is scheduled weekly or biweekly and the duration of each session is 90 minutes. The therapist and couple decide together when the treatment goals have been met and the therapy can end.

Optimizing Performance: Mental Coaching and Interactive Workshops

Mental Performance Coaching (MPC)

Mental Performance Coaching (MPC)

  • In MPC the focus is on developing a customised mental skills program for individuals and teams. We identify the specific mental skills the client needs, help them develop an understanding of what it takes for them to perform at their full potential and then teach them these mental skills based on the strategies that work best for their context. This is a cyclical process as we fine tune the strategies to the specific person and situation and can range from foundational to advanced mental skills.

Workshops and Presentations

Workshops and Presentations

  • We use our performance psychology skills and experience to offer custom workshops and presentations to leadership teams and organisations. We have presented for various startups and small businesses on topics such as leveraging stress, preventing burnout and building effective teams.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question that isn’t listed to the side, please reach out to us and we will gladly get back to you as soon as we can.

  • At the Mental Game Clinic we use an integrative approach to therapy. This means we work on two levels. The here and now of your life, offering science-based strategies for building a life worth living. The second level is helping you build self-awareness and an understanding of your psychological dynamics.

Some sessions may be more present moment focused and directive. Your therapist may teach you techniques and strategies and help you practice them. At other times you may have a more unstructured session, where your therapist offers insights and links to encourage your awareness of yourself and personal development.

  • Each session is 50 minutes long. Your therapist will schedule an hour with you. Fifty minutes of that time will be spend in face to face contact. Ten minutes are allocated to the therapist making and reviewing notes.

  • Therapy lasts as long as it needs to. A short-term process is usually between 8 and 12 sessions. Medium term therapy is usually between 12 and 25 sessions. Long-term therapy is anything over 25 sessions.

  • How often you attend will determine the intensity of the process. Sometimes weekly sessions are recommended. Therapy also often takes place biweekly or monthly. This is something to discuss with your therapist. They will make recommendations on what would work best for you.

  • Currently all sessions are online.

  • Diagnosis is a controlled act and only psychologists and certain medical professionals can diagnose. If you are seeing one of our psychologists and they think you meet the criteria for a diagnosis they will discuss this with you. Though it can be helpful to understand what your diagnosis is, remember that every person presents in their unique way. Your therapist wants to understand you and help you understand yourself. A label can be useful but rarely tells the whole story.
